Gladiatorial contests were an essential component in the culture of ancient Rome and, contrary to popular belief, gladiators were not just slaves who gave their lives in bloody spectacles played out in the arena, but were part of Roman identity.

Our special exhibition “Gladiator. The true story” has loans of the highest quality on display, conveys the latest scientific insight and provides interesting facts about the brave men, who, through hard work and determination, were able to eke out a place in Roman society for themselves.
