In the exhibition "Tamed Mountains. Alpine landscapes in the eyes of Baden photographers" historical photos by Wilhelm Paulcke (early 20th century) are effectively contrasted with contemporary photographs by Elias Siebert. The attempts to tame the unruly mountain landscapes as well as the changes in the landscape can be experienced in an impressive way and invite a discussion on how to deal with nature.
People have been making their mark on the landscapes of the Alps for more than eight thousand years. They have been worked, shaped and consumed according to people's needs and ideas - for living, for economic reasons or for leisure. These are attempts by humankind to "tame" the mountains, while their dangers appear manageable through science and technology.
