In cooperation with the Wüstenrot Foundation, the Staatsgalerie creates a new space for photography in Stuttgart: The Gällery. Permanently located on the ground floor of the Alte Staatsgalerie, this space is dedicated to the presentation of the collection's extensive photographic holdings, many of which have never been shown to the public before. At the same time, through cooperations with important players and galleries in the city, a living showcase for contemporary photographic art is created.
To start off, "The Gällery - Space for Photography" will be exploring the theme of spatial experiences from 25 February 2022. In the exhibition "body|spaces", numerous positions of international photographers show the role that the medium of photography has played over the last thirty years in the exploration of space as a body and in the creation of new spatial experiences. On display are works by Tata Ronkholz, John Coplans, Candida Höfer, Wolfgang Tillmans, Ute Mahler, Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler.
