Doesn’t everyone know them? Loved, longed for, admired, scorned. The snowman is always the personification of winter with all its joys and sorrows, formed from the very fabric of winter - snow. Feared by many, but also loved by many. For some, these frosty companions represent the soft, silent snow as the fabric of heaven, which alleviates even the harshest suffering on earth, as Christian Morgenstern impressively describes in his poem. For others they mean freezing cold and hostility to life, simply a state whose end is eagerly awaited. The exhibition shows the variety of snowman representations and the occurrence of these frosty fellows in all possible areas of daily life.
