Expressionism Switzerland

Exhibitions
Hermann Scherer, Der Maler, um 1925, Öl auf Leinwand, 112 x 161 cm, Privatbesitz Foto: Robert Bayer/Bildpunkt AG, Münchenstein
Bold compositions, plays of form and colour full of energy - Expressionist art embodies modernism par excellence. The Vogelmann Art Gallery is dedicated to this groundbreaking movement with a focus on Switzerland. For the first time, an exhibition shows how Swiss artists made use of this radically new visual language. They expressed their inner experience with colourful works. They found inspiration in the everyday life of mountain villages as well as in the dazzling nightlife of the big city. Alongside big names such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Alexej von Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin, who found exile in Switzerland, the show promises numerous new discoveries.
