Exhibition for the bicentenary of the birth of Theodore Deck
Deck 2023
From Guebwiller to Paris: this is the thread that will lead the visitor to meet the ceramist Théodore Deck. Born in 1823 into a humble family of silk dyers in Guebwiller, he died in Paris in 1891, showered with honours and celebrated throughout the world as the greatest ceramist of his time. The exhibition will take a closer look at Théodore Deck's early years, particularly his childhood in Guebwiller and his apprenticeship as a potter. Thanks to the archives kept in the museum, a new light will be shed on the family's operation of the factory and on the people close to Theodore Deck, who remained in the ceramist's shadow.
