Ecstasy in Art, Music and Dance

Exhibitions

Ecstasies are as old as humankind. The exhibition "Ecstasy in Art, Music and Dance" explores the condition of the "out-of-the-body" experience and its significance in cultural history and focuses on several central thematic areas. Artworks from Antiquity to the present day illustrate various facets such as the Dyonisian cult, religious rapture, the Brazilian Candomblé or drug-induced ecstasy. The anthropologically universal need for the dissolution of boundaries is portrayed in the works of international artists such as Marina Abramović, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Louise Bourgeois, Günter Brus, Lovis Corinth, Rineke Dijkstra, Marlene Dumas, Ayrson Heráclito, Carsten Höller, Aura Rosenberg, Andy Warhol, La Monte Young and many more.
