Children's Mobile Worlds
Children's mobility in times past is an intergenerational subject that always evokes memories of one's own childhood. Many pieces in this exhibition are from the post-war era and the 1970s, yet there are also rarities from the first years of bicycle history, such as an early "running-machine" for children. Like the treadle wheel from around 1870, this contraption was not affordable for most people and remained the preserve of the upper classes. With various early types of bicycle, the exhibition provides an overview of "small-scale" bicycle history from the running-machine to the bonanza bike of the 1970s.
