Charles Belle, Painter
A painter from Besançon whose work is known for its approach to the representation of the elements of nature in often monumental formats, he follows his own line as an unclassifiable artist. In a career spanning 40 years, he has produced nearly 10,000 paintings and more than 20,000 drawings. Charles Belle suggested that the Museums of Belfort host a series of his "Egards", large paintings dedicated to the masters that the artist chose for himself (Rembrandt, Vermeer, Vinci, Greco, etc.) and which will be placed alongside pieces from the permanent collection of the Museum of Art and History.
