Johann Martin Morat, who was born in Stühlingen in the first half of the 19th century, captured his homeland of Baden in delicate, bright and clear colours, ranging from the Black Forest to the Hochrhein, from Breisgau to the Markgräflerland, from Lake Constance to the Swiss border region. His gouaches and watercoloured pencil drawings are brimming with details. Thus they grant insight into the settlement and cultural history of the region.
