"Art and technology - a new unity" was how Walter Gropius defined the Bauhaus idea - and what a success it became.

"bauhaus - form and reform" in the Landesmuseum Mainz presents the Bauhaus idea by means of selected "Things of Everyday Life" based on designs by Bauhaus masters and pupils.

The Bauhaus idea, an immaterial cultural asset in the age of mass culture and market mechanisms, is presented through objects from the various Bauhaus workshops of carpentry, metal and pottery. These prototypes of functional design highlight the significance of the "good form" for a competent, serial and thus low-cost production "for everyone".
