Backlight – Masterpieces of French Impressionism
Under the title "Backlight" the Museum Langmatt is showing a collection presentation of selected masterpieces of French Impressionism. It is literally in the backlight that important paintings from the collection by Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro or Pierre-Auguste Renoir reveal their very special magic. Light is virtually a synonym for Impressionism. The changing of the light at different times of day and with changes in the weather was a constant fascination for the artists. In the open air and in nature they studied the effects of the light on their motifs with great dedication. This often led to serial work groups showing one and the same motif in different lights.
