The Haus zum Kirschgarten is once again gearing up for the festive season: From the first Sunday in Advent, Basel’s grandest mansion will be full of sparkling Christmas trees. The big and small fir trees displayed in the historical interiors of the museum will each be decorated in a different style. Distributed between the ground floor and the toy department in the attic, they will tell the story of Christmas tree decorations from their modest beginnings in the early 19th century to the present, from simple ornaments such as apples and nuts to costly baubles made of glass, paper and metal. As always, only real trees will be used.
