Opening day: Vivian Greven and Not Vital

Vernissage of the exhibition
On 29/05/2021
On the third opening day of this year, the exhibitions of Vivian Greven, one of the most highly-regarded young female German artist, and Not Vital, considered one of the most significant Swiss artists of the present day, will open.

Vivian Greven (*1985 in Bonn, lives in Düsseldorf) draws her figures from antiquity and the Renaissance. Affection and injury, romanticism and cool distance are the diametrically opposed poles within her artworks. The figures appear to shine from the inside, as if they are inhabited by a mysterious and sometimes almost religious energy. Her pictures possess an incomparable, positively auratic radiance, and, at the same time, an extraordinary timelessness. Vivian Greven impressively demonstrates just how touching and existential painting can be in the present day.

A number of Not Vital's sculptural works engage in a subtle dialogue with selected Chinese Han Dynasty artworks from the Langmatt collection, and also with the historic park. In the artworks by Not Vital (*1948 in Sent / CH, lives in Beijing, Rio de Janeiro and Sent), irrational connections between different cultural epochs play a central role. Many of his artworks are characterised by an enigmatic and sometimes bizarre sense of humour that produces a childlike amazement, and thus a new and undistorted perception of nature and culture.
