Free Sunday tour with Siegert Kittel

On several dates, Siegert Kittel will guide visitors through the exhibition "Lifeline. Rhine in Transition" at the Museum am Lindenplatz. Various aspects of the Rhine will be discussed. How did people perceive the habitat in the past? And has life on the Rhine changed as a result of straightening? A large number of historical documents, such as an original signature by Tulla, as well as historical maps from the 17th and 18th centuries, convey a picture of the former, untamed river. With the straightening of the Rhine, the construction of the Rhine side canal with power plant and lock, the Upper Rhine has changed. The former fishing village Märkt was particularly affected by these changes. Many Rhine islands were lost and with them the habitat for a nature characterized by floodplain forests.
